After nearly 27 years of service, Reserve Team Manager Steve Hubbard is stepping down in search of some quieter Saturday afternoons — ideally without last minute cry offs, missing shin pads, or questions about who's running the line.
Steve joined the Wood as a young fresh-faced left back/midfielder, starting in the ‘B’ team before progressing to the ‘A’ team and onto make a few appearance's for the Reserves.
He later dusted of his George Best Stylo matchmaker side laced boots and returned for Veterans football, representing both sides before finally retiring from playing.
Alongside his playing days, Steve spent many years coaching across all age groups at partner club Harold Wood Cougars..
He moved into men’s management in 2019/20 with the ‘A’ team, then onto take charge of the Reserves in 2021/22.
In the 2022/23 he guided them to a 4th place finish and promotion to Essex Olympian League Division One.
Although stepping away from management, Hubbs not so fresh faced now, will continue serving the Club as a Senior Committee member.
Also leaving the Club are long time coaching partners, Neil Stear former Wood player and Steve Downes along with James Dancer, goalkeeping coach who had also represented the Club between the sticks.
The Club would like to thank Steve, Neil, and James for their hard work, commitment and dedication to the Wood cause and wishes them every success in the future
